Our aim is to provide a unique food experience that will appeal to people who want to try real South East Asian cuisine. Our menus mix classic dishes that have been passed down through generations with popular street food from where I grew up.”

Siew Kuan’s passion for food first started from being around her family in Singapore where she grew up. From a very young age Siew Kuan was involved in food preparation, helping her mother pluck chickens in the bath for her older brother to sell as street food on his hawker stall. Siew Kuan learnt how to cook many of the authentic dishes served in her restaurants today from her family, including the Blue Piano’s famous carrot cake recipe, created by her sister.
At age 16, Siew Kuan began working as a receptionist at the infamous Raffles Hotel where she stayed for two years to learn the hospitality industry. By just 18, Siew Kuan has worked her way up to a role in guest relations at luxury Singapore hotel The Shangri-la, dealing with VIP’s, celebrities and royalty.
After relocating to the UK, Siew Kuan met husband Peter. They decided to open their first restaurant Blue Ginger in 2006, serving traditional Malaysian and Singaporean cuisine in Kings Heath town centre.
After the success of Blue Ginger, Siew Kuan and Peter went on to open The Blue Piano restaurant and bar in 2010. Offering real South East Asian cuisine the menu has a mixture of traditional dishes such as fish amok (the national dish of Cambodia), popular Malay choices such as king prawns with sambal chilli and of course Siew Kuan’s sister’s savoury Singapore carrot cake. The bar provides an extensive array of beers, wines, spirits and cocktails, while customers can relax and unwind in The Blue Piano’s sunny South facing garden.
In summer 2013, The Blue Piano will open its doors to four brand new guest rooms, three beautifully appointed en-suite bedrooms and one luxury suite.
