Birmingham Wine School events
Enjoy wine and would like to learn more about it? Birmingham Wine School - an independent wine education company based in the heart of the city, run wine tasting and wine courses. The courses focus on enjoying wine and learning more in a relaxed and informal setting, with friendly people.
Alternative Tours offer a range of bespoke, 'behind the scenes' tours specialising in the Balti Triangle, the Jewellery Quarter and Digbeth. These are aimed at groups of between 10 and 50 people and satisfied customers include University of the Third Age, Common Purpose, Unity Bank, and NADFAS.
Familiarisation visits can be organised for VIPs, journalists, prospective investors and the media. Clients have included the New York Times, Scandinavian Airlines and the Daily Mirror. Alternative Tours also design and publish free visitor guides including the highly successful 'Essential Guide to the Jewellery Quarter' and 'Dig Digbeth'. The two business partners in Alternative Tours are Anna Gibson and Andy Munro, both passionate Brummies who believe so many people, both visitor and residents alike, miss out on sampling the delights of areas which are truly unique to the City.
Anna has vast experience in previous roles marketing the city. Andy led on the successful regeneration of the Jewellery Quarter for over ten years whilst he has championed the famous Birmingham Balti. This manifested itself in the Essential Street Balti Guide and, more recently, a bid to Europe to trademark the Birmingham Balti. He has also recently published the definitive history of this iconic dish, ‘Going For A Balti’.
Nickolls & Perks, monthly tastings
Nickolls & Perks hold regular tastings. They are usually held in thier 16th century cellars but venues have also includeed Stourbridge Town Hall, Hartlebury Castle and Hagley Hall. The cellars give a cosy and atmospheric space in which to explore wines and whiskies which you may not normally try. Many a convert has been converted down their stairs!
As well as conducting their own tastings, they have also played host to some of the top brands such as Chateau Musar, Gosset-Brabant and Taylor's Port. They also arrange corporate events where you can entertain clients (or potential clients) in an informal and relaxed environment.

The walk lasts approximately 2 hours and includes a taste of the best real ale in Brum. Prepare to be entertained, amused and intrigued on this unique walk in Birmingham.
