Eight local rail lines criss-cross the city to ensure quick links to all attractions and venues (as well as connecting to services to other UK cities and towns).
Birmingham is at the heart of the UK rail network and a transport hub for people traveling throughout the UK. The newly redeveloped New Street Station alone has the capacity for 52 million passengers a year.
The stations at Birmingham also provide quick access to Birmingham International - Birmingham Airport's own station stop - for anyone looking to fly to and from Birmingham.
New Street Station
Sitting at the hub of the National Rail network, Birmingham's newly redeveloped New Street Station is the busiest interchange station in the UK with a train leaving the station every 37 seconds. As part of this new development, the newly opened shopping centre Grand Central Birmingham is located above the station.
1,250 trains travel through the platforms each day taking you across the UK with regular services to London Euston, Manchester, Liverpool, the North West and Scotland.
Moor Street Station
Just six minutes walk from New Street Station; Moor Street Station serves local lines to Stratford upon Avon and Kidderminster but also has direct services to London Marylebone via the Chilterns route.
The Grade II listed station has now been restored to its former glory after undergoing a major restoration in the early 2000’s.
Snow Hill Station & Midland Metro
Birmingham Snow Hill Station serves local rail services to Solihull and Worcester and metro trams towards Wolverhampton.
The current tram line runs to Bull Street in the City Centre with a further extension to Corporation Street and New Street station.
Network West Midlands
Network West Midlands is your first port of call for information on tickets and passes for public transport.
For a monthly fee, you can have unlimited rail travel across your chosen section of the West Midlands saving you money on your commute to work, day trips and weekend getaways. The ticket is valid across all trains and services within the set boundary meaning you can hop on and off trains as you please.
West Midlands Railway
West Midlands Railway are here to serve you and our region better. They're bringing in more trains, more seats, more affordable fares and compensation if your train is delayed by more than 15 minutes.
High Speed 2
The proposed High Speed 2 is a railway that will link Birmingham to London, the East Midlands, Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester - significantly reducing the travel time between each location. Currently, the average journey time from Birmingham to London is 1 hour 24 minutes which will reduce to 49 minutes on HS2 - taking off 40% of the time.
Along with quicker travel times, HS2 is expected to bring with it an additional 50,000 jobs to the West Midlands and an additional £4 billion increase in economic output.
