Staffordshire

Major attractions, medieval treasures and monkey business; Staffordshire has plenty of surprises in store for the visitor!

Staffordshire may perhaps be best known for the Potteries and its world class theme parks, but a day spent touring the area also uncovers glorious countryside, celebrated museums and castles, blooming gardens, more miles of canal than any other shire county and the UK's only Monkey Forest!

You can also discover the celebrated cities of Stoke-on-Trent and Lichfield. There’s stylish shopping to enjoy in Stafford, bargain hunting in Newcastle under Lyme, beer tasting in Burton, browsing antiques in Leek or ghost hunting in Tamworth.

Drayton Manor Theme ParkDrayton Manor is a highly-popular major family theme park with kids’ rides, family fun, zoo, and thrill rides. Drayton Manor is also home to Thomas Land for fans of the little blue tank engine.

Alton Towers is arguably Britain's biggest and most-loved theme park with great kids’ attractions, white-knuckle roller coaster rides and special events.

From the stunning Peak District to the splendour of Kinver Edge, walk, cycle, float or ride across the county’s many beautiful landscapes.

Trentham Monkey Forest is set in 60 acres of beautiful Staffordshire woodland and meadows where 140 monkeys live in total freedom. Another outdoor pleasure is Cannock Chase, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with acres of walks to explore and ‘Follow the dog’ one of the UK’s most exciting mountain bike trails.

Staffordshire Potteries are known the world over. There are six Staffordshire towns within the city of Stoke on Trent that make up the Potteries and brands created in the 19th Century are still active there today include Doulton, Twyford, and Wedgwood.

Staffordshire HoardDon’t miss the magnificent £3.285m Staffordshire Hoard. The largest hoard of Anglo Saxon Gold ever found in Britain. Found in a farmer’s field, there are over 3,400 pieces in the collection. The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery has jointly acquired the Staffordshire Hoard with Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery and has around 100 items on permanent display.
