The New Beat Generation
We live in an ageing society.
However Birmingham, along with a number of its European peers, is bucking a global trend and is seeing its young population grow.
Birmingham is one of the youngest cities in Europe, with under 25s accounting for nearly 40% of its population. Copenhagen, Lille Métropole-Roubaix, Rotterdam and Stockholm join it with a high proportion of under 25s making up each city’s overall population.
Europe's Young Cities: A New Beat Generation? is a briefing compiled by Visit Birmingham which provides a mere snapshot into the creative life of each of these cities and illustrates how their young populations are making their mark by using culture – from music and dance to art and literature – to create a dynamism, vibrancy and drive that is shaping each cities’ future.
