The wait is almost over as Winter Skate, Birmingham’s new outdoor ice rink, will be arriving in the city on the 16 November.
On Saturday 16th November, the ice rink will take pride of place in Centenary Square, near the new Library, The REP and ICC, and will be open to the public until Sunday 5th January 2014.
Visitors to Birmingham City centre will be able to ‘show off’ their skating skills for the first time in five years and start to really enjoy the festive season.
Olivia Vaughan, Event Manager, from Winter Skate, said:
We’re so excited for the ice rink to be fully installed in Birmingham and we hope the next five days fly by, so people can start enjoying our real ice rink. It’s going to provide festive fun for people of all ages across the region, and with Christmas just around the corner, it’s the perfect way to embrace some seasonal cheer.
It has been years since the city has had an ice rink and we know it’s something people miss. Winter Skate hopes to compliment the other seasonal events on the calendar such as Frankfurt market and craft fair, offering visitors a truly magical day out.
In addition to the ice rink, Winter Skate visitors can warm their fingers and toes in the Ice Café, which will serve seasonal delights, with everything from indulgent hot chocolate and sausage rolls, to spiced mulled wine and mince pies. For those who would prefer to sit back and enjoy the action from above, there will be dry viewing platforms and seating areas.
