‘Visit Solihull’ promoted to Travel & Trade
Rail passengers attending the British Tourism & Travel Show at the NEC discovered all Solihull has to offer at Birmingham International train station thanks to a partnership between Solihull Tourism Forum and Virgin Trains.
Members of the Solihull Tourism Forum, a voluntary group of Solihull’s tourism sector businesses, co-ordinated by Solihull Council, ran the ‘pop up’ to promote Solihull as a great place to stay, eat and visit.
Over the two days at the station, which has over 5 million passengers per year, visitors were given information about places to stay, to dine and to shop – promoting the inaugural Solihull Fashion Week in the Solihull town centre, in conjunction with Solihull Business Improvement District.
Information also included 2016’s ‘16 things you didn’t know about Solihull’ and a borough wide calendar of events to draw in visitors into the area.
The promotion follows a series of other partnership events with Virgin Trains, including a ‘pop up’ at their new look First Class Business Lounge at London Euston and the recruitment of a series of ‘Ambassadors’ who work on the London to Birmingham International route, all promoting what Solihull has to offer.
Sally Bowen, Chair of the Solihull Tourism Forum, commented:
Solihull’s tourism and leisure sector is incredibly important to the area. In 2015 it contributed over £965 million to the local economy and supported over 10,000 jobs. With visitor numbers increasing year on year, it is important that we, as a Forum, work together to promote the Borough as a fantastic place to shop, dine and stay and maximise opportunities for visitor spend.
Simon Greaves, Virgin Trains Station Manager, commented:
There’s so much to see and do in Solihull. It’s only a stone’s throw away from International Station with great connections to London and the North. That’s why we jumped at the chance to partner with the Solihull Tourism Forum, who deserve great credit for their energy in showcasing some of the many things the borough has to offer.
