Summer fun in the sun for families!

Youngsters are set to have a summer of fun as adventurous pirates, entertaining clowns and cuddly teddy bears join the Birmingham Botanical Gardens as it hosts a number of family events for the summer holidays.

The whole family will be able to enjoy fascinating tricks when the circus comes to town on Monday 10 August. Leading circus company, The National Festival Circus will be setting up its famous Big Top at the 15-acre gardens and thrilling audiences with fast tempo juggling, magic tricks, spinning hoops and, of course, slapstick clowns.

Talented international circus performers will come together under the Big Top to entertain children with an animal-free circus experience.

The fun doesn’t end there, on Wednesday 26 August, the family-friendly attraction will set sail for a pirate-themed Teddy Bears’ Picnic. X marks the spot as children take their teddy bears on a treasure hunt around the Edgbaston-based gardens while enjoying the many fragrant flowers and plants.

Dig out eye patches and bandanas as there will be a competition for the best fancy dress costume. Face painting, arts and crafts and a bouncy castle will also be available during the picnic.

Not only will pirates invade the annual event, stallholders will also be showcasing toys, arts and crafts that will keep children entertained well after the family-friendly day out.

James Wheeler, chief executive of Birmingham Botanical Gardens, said:

We know that the summer holidays can be a hectic time for families. We’re happy to take some of the pressure off parents with our range of events.
Our annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic always has a great turn out and is well-loved by our visitors. We’re excited to shake things up this year with our pirate theme and by inviting local stallholders to get involved in the fun. The circus is a new event for us and the exciting thrills of the show are set to enchant audiences and could become a regular in our yearly event calendar.”

The first circus performance will start at 11am on Monday 10 August with two further show times of 2.30pm and 4pm. Tickets are £4 each.

The pirate themed Teddy Bear’s Picnic will kick start at 12pm.
