Sir Tom Jones Kickstarts New Tour with a Symphony Hall Debut!

On Friday 9th October, Symphony Hall will welcome music legend Sir Tom Jones for an intimate event to introduce his first ever autobiography, as well as an exclusive performance of some of his most iconic songs.

To launch the publication of ‘Over the Top and Back – The Autobiography’, Sir Tom will kick start his tour at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall. He will be accompanied by music aficionado and BBC 6Music presenter Matt Everitt to revisit his past and explore the twists of fate that took a boy from Pontypridd to global fame.

The discussion will see Sir Tom reveal the inspiration behind his hits, as well as the ups and downs of his remarkable life and long-standing career. From his early heydays in the 1960s to his later period of artistic renaissance, fans will have the unique opportunity to hear Sir Tom lay bare the stories behind his success first hand.

To accompany the talk, there will be a specially curated performance of songs significant to Sir Tom, including a number of never-before-heard tracks from the accompanying soundtrack to the book, ‘Long Lost Suitcase’.  This is the last in the trilogy of albums following 2010’s ‘Praise & Blame’ and 2012’s ‘Spirit In The Room’, and concludes Sir Tom’s exploration of his musical roots. It will be accompanied by a 16-page booklet featuring rare photos from the singers path to success.

In a career than has spanned over six decades, Sir Tom has truly earned his national treasure status. He has recorded an expansive body of work and has performed with major artists from across the globe, from Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis and Sinatra, to Robbie Williams, Van Morrison and Ed Sheeran, and across every genre, from rock and pop to country, blues and soul.

Chris Baldock, Head of Commercial Programming said,

“We’re very excited to be able to welcome Sir Tom Jones for his very first performance at Symphony Hall. Not only will fans be able to hear him talk about his road to worldwide fame and the stories behind some of his biggest hits in person, but they will also be able to experience an intimate performance of songs which are emotionally significant to him. We have no doubts this will be an incredibly special event.”

‘In Conversation with Tom Jones’ will be taking place on Friday 9th October at Symphony Hall from 8.00pm.
