Pushkar celebrates 5th birthday with the launch of new restaurant, Praza by Pushkar, in Edgbaston
Award winning Indian fine dining restaurant, Pushkar Cocktail Bar & Dining on Broad Street, celebrated five years of trading on Tuesday 11th November 2014. Pushkar will officially celebrate their 5th birthday with the launch of a new restaurant venture in Edgbaston, to be named ‘Praza by Pushkar’.
With a substantial six figure investment, Praza by Pushkar in Edgbaston, which was formerly the Rose Murree restaurant, will have an art deco inspired aesthetic with monochrome colourways, glass and chrome, creating a very chic and luxurious feel. This new and exciting venture will create 15 new jobs. Pushkar’s fifth birthday event will coincide with Praza’s launch party, which will take place in the New Year. Pushkar will be giving away a select number of exclusive free tickets as part of a competition ahead of the event.
Praza will continue Pushkar’s celebration of North Indian Cuisine, but with hopes to bring worldwide restaurant ideas to the heart of Birmingham. Director, Rai Singh, also plans to bring a grilling menu to Praza which will heavily incorporate more innovative and interesting combinations that have not commonly featured on Birmingham’s culinary scene. The new menu will be masterminded by Pushkar’s award winning Head Chef, Bishal Rasaily, and will feature new and exciting meats such as pigeon, rabbit and lobster.
The new venture has come as a result of the overwhelming success that Pushkar has experienced since launching 5 years ago in 2009. Director, Rai Singh, who had no previous experience in the restaurant industry, headed the concept for Pushkar and proved it to be a very successful one. Pushkar’s elegant and sophisticated décor and ambiance coupled with its authentic yet refined Indian menu, changed people’s common perception of the Birmingham curry house. Pushkar’s innovation injected a new energy into the Broad Street scene and has inspired many other businesses on Broad Street to follow suit.
Pushkar’s Creative Director, Rai Singh said:
Initially, my concept for Pushkar was seen as something of a risk and the board of Broad Street directors took a little convincing. I, however, was confident throughout as I had always seen Broad Street as a somewhat bohemian location and felt strongly that this was exactly what it needed. I just knew that the concept would work, and it did!” Comment ends.
When Pushkar was first established in 2009, it began with just 15 members of staff in total. It now employs over 30 members of staff. Sales have been increasing at least 20% per year and due to demand from diners, the restaurant expanded further in 2012 to seat a further 70 diners.
Pushkar has firmly established itself as on the Birmingham culinary scene receiving consistently great reviews, on both review sites such as Tripadvisor, Toptable and Opentable, and in local, national and even international publications, with features in Stylist Magazine, GQ, The Times, The New York Times, People’s Friend Magazine and more. The restaurant has also received a plethora of awards and accolades including Best Chef (Best of Broad Street Awards 2010 & 2011), Best in Britain Restaurant Award (BiBA Awards 2013 & 2014), Restaurant of the Year (English Curry Awards 2012), and many more.
Pushkar recently represented Birmingham as the Curry Capital of Britain for National Curry Week for a second year running and has also been shortlisted as a finalist in the prestigious 2014 British Curry Awards.
Although the business has grown immensely, our team has always remained solid, close and hardworking, welcomed new members to the team and helped them to settle in. I believe this is key to any successful business, but especially one in the hospitality sector.
