Moseley Rugby Club becomes Birmingham Moseley for 2016/17 season

From the 2016/17 season, Moseley Rugby Club will be known as ‘Birmingham Moseley’. The decision was confirmed by the Moseley board following approval of an application to the RFU Governance Committee in November 2015.

The name change came into effect on 1st June 2016. The legal entity that runs the club on behalf of the members will not change and continue to trade as Moseley Rugby Ltd.

Dave Warren, Chairman, said:

A great deal of thought has been put into this decision. This has taken into account that this is a club name that has been part of the history of Rugby Union since 1873. However the board felt that the name change will assist significantly in identifying the location of the club to the wider public – particularly to those who are not aware of the club’s proud history.
The proposal was first aired with intent at the club’s AGM in June 2014 and was followed with a series of meetings and discussions. A great deal of feedback has been received over the intervening months and the club has provided information and answers either directly or through the club’s newsletter and various social media outlets.
The vast majority of the responses received by the club have been positive. The club can assure all interested parties that the value of the proud history and ethos of Moseley remains in safe hands.
