Moseley Rugby Club amends name – from June 2016: ‘Birmingham Moseley’
Moseley Rugby Club has great pleasure in announcing that they will start the 2016/17 season as ‘Birmingham Moseley’. The decision was confirmed this week by the Moseley board following approval of an application to the RFU Governance Committee on the 3rd November.
The name change from Moseley Rugby Club to Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club will come into effect on 1st June 2016. The legal entity that runs the club on behalf of the members will not change and continue to trade as Moseley Rugby Ltd.
This ends an extensive consultation within the club and with all parties with an interest including the governing body (The Rugby Football Union) the constituent body (North Midlands RFU), other clubs in and around Birmingham, our sponsors and supporters including Birmingham City Council.
Dave Warren, Chairman, said:
A great deal of thought has been put into this decision. This has taken into account that this is a club name that has been part of the history of Rugby Union since 1873. However the board felt that the name change will assist significantly in identifying the location of the club to the wider public – particularly to those who are not aware of the club’s proud history.
The proposal was first aired with intent at the club’s AGM in June 2014 and was followed with a series of meetings and discussions. A great deal of feedback has been received over the intervening months and the club has provided information and answers either directly or through the club’s newsletter and various social media outlets.
The vast majority of the responses received by the club have been positive. The club can assure all interested parties that the value of the proud history and ethos of Moseley remains in safe hands.
