Get involved with the community Big Lunch at Lichfield Cathedral
Back by popular demand, The Big Lunch, the UK’s annual get-together for the community, is returning to Lichfield Cathedral on Sunday 7 June. People from across Lichfield and the surrounding areas are being invited to attend the giant picnic on the Cathedral lawns, and get to know their neighbours better.
The event will run from 12pm to 3pm (weather permitting), and is open to anyone from the local area. The Cathedral Young Voices will be performing, as well as the very popular Lichfield Lighthouse Company, and Chapters, the Café in The Close, will be selling a wide variety of food and drink.
The Big Lunch is an idea from the Eden Project, made possible by the Big Lottery Fund and supported by Halifax and Asda. It is the perfect recipe for having run with neighbours, feeding community spirit, and helping to build stronger neighbourhoods. Last year, 4.83 million people took part in The Big Lunch across the UK.
Chris Gray, Events Manager for Lichfield Cathedral, said:
“The Big Lunch at the Cathedral has now become a mainstay in the ‘community calendar’ and seems to get better each year. It’s a great opportunity to meet new, local people in a friendly and relaxed environment in our beautiful surroundings. The entertainment is always great fun, too!”
Sir Tim Smit KBE, Co-Founder of the Eden Project and The Big Lunch, adds:
“It’s always great to see people embracing The Big Lunch all over the UK. Sharing food and conversation with your neighbours for just a few hours can really lead to lasting friendships and a stronger community for many years to come.”
