Festive Offerings at Birmingham Museums

This Christmas, Birmingham Museums presents a host of festive events and activities to delight the whole family. From carol singing to crafts, wreath workshops to nativity trails, all generations can enjoy a magical Christmas experience.
Visitors to Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery can take part in the Nativity Trail, to explore works in the collection with a special link to the Christmas story (trails are free for visitors), and from 17 – 22 December, young visitors can meet Santa (charges apply. Selected times only) Plus, the magical artwork ‘Night with her Train of Stars’ by E.R. Hughes will be on limited display from 24 November 2014 – 11 January 2015.
On Saturday 6 December there will be lots of Christmas treats to enjoy in the fascinating Museum of the Jewellery Quarter. These include carol singing, costumed guided tours and Christmas craft activities for children (free admission to the museum. Christmas crafts activities (1pm – 3pm) £1 per child). Over at Weoley Castle Ruins on 6 December there will be Green Wreath Workshops for adults and families. Participants will be provided with all the material and instruction they need to create and take home a beautiful, natural wreath (£10 per wreath. Adult session 10.30 – 12 noon, families 1pm – 2.30pm)
At Blakesley Hall, from Monday 8 – Thursday 11 December, there will be Christmas Tours of the house and grounds. Join a costumed guide and see the hall as it would have looked, in decorated splendour, during the Tudor period. Plus, you can enjoy a warming mug of berry punch and mince pie. (£8 per person. Booking essential. Call 0121 348 8120) Saturday 13 December families can experience a ‘Victorian Christmas’ at the hall and meet Victorian characters as they prepare for the Yuletide festivities. At Soho House, former home of industrialist and entrepreneur Matthew Boulton, on Thursday 4, 11 and 18 December visitors can take part in the Christmas Delights Tour. See Soho House as it was decorated for a Georgian Christmas and find out how Boulton and his friends would have celebrated the festive season during the 18th Century. (£7 per person including festive refreshments. Booking essential. Call 0121 348 8120) Saturday 13 December there will be Carols at Soho House. Visitors can not only join in some festive songs, but also hear about 18th century Christmas traditions.
