Drayton Manor Park gives disadvantaged children a fun filled day to remember

This week, Drayton Manor Park gave thousands of disadvantaged children from across the West Midlands a day out filled with special memories, as it teamed up with charity KidsOut for its annual Big Day Out on 8th June 2016.

Youngsters, carers, guardians and teachers descended on the Staffordshire theme park for the annual event and with around 7,500 people attending, it was the biggest gathering yet! Organised in conjunction with the charity and Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI), the event is now in its 27th year and helps give children living with disabilities, special needs and other disadvantages a free and exciting day out.

KidsOut delivers positive and fun experiences to thousands of children throughout the UK who have escaped domestic violence or come from difficult backgrounds. Whatever their disadvantage KidsOut brings fun and excitement into their lives, as well as hope for a better future. Since 1989, the park has participated in the annual Big Day Out every summer, welcoming in excess 32,000 children plus guests.

Throughout the day young thrill seekers enjoyed the white knuckle rides including the huge drop-tower Apocalypse, stand-up coaster Shockwave and the stomach churning Maelstrom. Europe’s only Thomas Land™ also proved to be very popular with the younger guests, now bigger and better than ever following a huge £2.5 million expansion in April last year. Animal lovers enjoyed the new Tamarin Trail, part of the park’s 15 acre Zoo, whilst others favoured an exciting screening in the 4D cinema.

Colin Bryan, CEO at Drayton Manor Park said:

This event holds a really special place in our hearts and we look forward to it every single year. It means a lot to be able to provide these children with a memorable day out, especially as so many of them have never been to a theme park before. It’s fantastic to see the smiles on all their faces and we’re honoured to be a part of this great initiative.

Rotarian Bill Elliot, KidsOut’s Big Day Out co-ordinator said:

This day aims to show children that there is hope for the future and that people do care even though they’ve had a tough start in life. We want to say a huge thank you to the Bryan family and the staff at Drayton Manor for their continued support throughout the years.
