Crowd Out call for final fifty
Crowd Out, the ambitious vocal project which unites the voices of 1,000 local people, has made a final public call for performers in Birmingham.
The event, taking place at Millennium Point on Sunday 8 June at 2.30pm and 4.30pm, will represent the world premiere of Crowd Out, an extraordinary musical event composed by Pulitzer Prize-winning David Lang and produced by Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG). The Music Director of Crowd Out is Simon Halsey, acclaimed Chorus Director for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) and the Project Co-ordinator is Birmingham’s dynamic music entrepreneur Clare Edwards.
Crowd Out will be a performance on an epic scale, and needs just a few more participants to be complete. The piece was composed for 1000 untrained voices, meaning that anyone, irrespective of musical experience, can perform. Performers will sing, yell, talk, shout and more besides!
Simon Halsey said,
“This is a unique opportunity for the people of Birmingham to take part in something unprecedented in the city. Indeed, as the piece will receive its international premiere ahead of performances in Berlin and London, it’s a chance to do something the world is yet to see.”
“Best of all, you don’t need to be a professional performer to take part in something of real artistic worth. We’re urging anyone who wants to do something wonderful NOT to miss out on this moment.”
Philip Singleton, Chief Executive at Millennium Point, said:
“We pride ourselves on the fact Millennium Point is at the heart of things creative and innovative in Birmingham and we’re always seeking new ways to make our public spaces come alive. We’ve never held an event quite like this – it’ll be amazing to hear how 1,000 voices sound in our atrium.”
To register for Crowd Out, there will be a ‘last chance’ rehearsal taking place at 10am, Sunday 1st June 2014, in the CBSO Centre, Berkley Street, Birmingham. For further details, visit the BCMG website or email firstname.lastname@example.org
