Christina says she's mad for a Birmingham balti

Mad Men star Christina Hendricks has revealed how she’s keen to make a pilgrimage to Birmingham to sample the delights of the world famous Balti Triangle.

In an interview with the Radio Times, the star of the iconic sixties series explained why the city is so close to her heart, as her father was born and raised in Birmingham and she has yet to make a visit.

Emma Gray, Director of Marketing Services for Visit Birmingham:

Christina would be in for a culinary treat if she makes her pilgrimage to the city and it would be interesting to see if she lives up to her fiery red hair in her taste for curry! With Birmingham home to more Michelin stars than any other city outside London, she might find she has to stay a while to fit in everything that’s on offer.”

In readiness for her arrival, Visit Birmingham has put together an itinerary fit for a glamorous Hollywood star:

Shop ‘til you drop…
Indulge in some pre-Christmas treats and visit Birmingham’s inspiring retail outlets, from the uber-cool Mailbox, packed with some of the top designer names such as Harvey Nichols, to the iconic Selfridges building. The city is an unparalleled world-class shopping destination.

Touch of nostalgia…
Enjoy a lazy afternoon with a difference at The Electric Cinema.  It’s the oldest working cinema in the UK and screens the best in independent and intelligent mainstream films.  What’s more, you can cosy up on a cold autumn day and watch a film in the comfort of a luxury sofa, whilst taking advantage of the text waiter service.

Take in the sights…
Get the best view of Birmingham from the top of one of the city’s newest developments.  The champagne bar at The Cube offers panoramic views of the city skyline and will be sure to offer you a unique and memorable experience.

Be wined and dined…
Birmingham has over 200 top-ranking restaurants in the city centre alone and is of course home to the infamous Balti Triangle.  Offering an unrivalled selection of restaurants, the Triangle is one of the city’s don’t miss experiences. Take your pick from a selection of exceptional curry houses and add a bit of spice to your evening.

Rest sleepy heads…
Hotel Du Vin is a unique city centre hotel situated in the previous Birmingham Eye Hospital.  The old Victorian red brick building has been converted into a luxurious 66-bedroom hotel centred around a courtyard.  This relaxing haven offers a spa, gym and Pub du Vin serving local ales and traditional pub food.
