William Pearson, Aviation Development Director, Birmingham Airport, said:
Blue Air is the ninth new airline to announce or commence services to Birmingham Airport this year. We are excited to be part of Blue Air’s expansion programme for 2016 and pleased that they have chosen Birmingham. Bucharest is a bustling metropolis and popular weekend break destination so we are very pleased that our passengers will be offered more capacity and choice to the city from the spring.
Gheorghe RACARU, General Manager Blue Air, said:
We are happy to bring Birmingham closer to Romanian’s largest city and capital and we are sure that this new route will be popular with both our business and leisure travelers.
The 2016 summer schedule brings over 23 new Blue Air routes and the visible increase triggers an expansion of the fleet and number of employees. Blue Air fleet currently includes 15 aircraft and by the end of March next year it will reach a total of 20 Boeing 737 aircraft.”
The Customer Service and Flight Departments were the main services that contributed to the increase in Blue Air’s headcount by over 50% compared to 2014. Presently the company has 750 employees and turnover will reach 200 million euro in 2015 and the number of passengers will exceed two million. At present, Blue Air has three operational bases in Romania and two overseas bases in Italy and Cyprus. By next summer it will fly to 65 routes within Europe. Blue Air has been operating from United Kingdom since 2008.
