Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter Gearing Up for an Eventful Month

May is shaping up to be an eventful month for Birmingham, with a calendar jam packed with free events taking place across Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.

The Quarter’s streets will be taken over by a range of exciting events from music, to dance and even a bike day throughout the month of May, all of which are either organised, funded or sponsored by the Jewellery Quarter Business Improvement District (JQBID).

Kicking off the month will be the Jewellery Quarter’s first Big Bike Day of the year on 11th May in Golden Square, Warstone Lane. Cycling enthusiasts are invited to bring their bikes to the Golden Square from 8am until 6pm, where the Urban Cycles team will be on hand to offer bike servicing and advice completely free of charge.

On that same day, the International Dance Festival Birmingham will be coming to Golden Square with a performance titled ‘Phone Box’. Two performances are scheduled at 11am and 1pm as part of the IDFB, which is one of the largest dance festivals in the world. This year will mark the first time the Jewellery Quarter has hosted one of the acts as the JQBID seeks to involve the area is a more diverse range of activities and demographics.

Finally, fans of great music will have their pick of the venues all over the Jewellery Quarter for the Jazz Legends Music Festival 2016. Organised by Birmingham Jazz, the three-day festival will start on Friday 20th May, with 13 performances hosted across different venues, including the University College Birmingham, the Red Lion and Saint Kitchen. Birmingham Jazz will return in the summer to run alongside the JQBID’s very own Jewellery Quarter Festival on 22nd – 24th July 2016.

Speaking about the events Luke Crane, JQBID manager said:

The Jewellery Quarter is fast becoming known for its quirky, diverse offering to Birmingham’s established scene. As such, we are delighted to be working with a range of compelling organisations this month to deliver a memorable plethora of events to reflect this.

The JQBID is a locally funded organisation dedicated to providing projects, initiatives and events to promote the growth of local business, increase footfall and raise the profile of the Jewellery Quarter as the place to live, learn, work and visit.
