Birmingham restaurant surpasses industry trends and has record December
Birmingham’s hospitality sector sees a return to confidence after top city-centre restaurant has its best Christmas since the recession.
Opus at Cornwall Street, based in the heart of Colmore Business District, enjoyed a record festive season with an impressive 11% increase in like-for-like sales on last year, as well as exceeding its projected target by 9%, making December its best ever since the financial crisis of 2008.
Beverage sales saw an increase of 15% compared to December the previous year and food saw an increase of 9%, whilst the main areas of growth came in the form of private dining, which was up 15% and represented a staggering 37.5% of December’s bookings.
Ann Tonks, director at Opus at Cornwall Street, said:
The hospitality sector as a whole saw a growth of 1.8% in December last year and so we’re thrilled to know that we completely smashed that. Most interestingly, it was our private dining that saw the biggest growth at Christmas, reinforcing the belief that private dining is back and big with businesses post-recession.
This outstanding growth was not the only success for Opus at Cornwall Street in 2015. Last year saw the restaurant celebrate its 10th birthday, proving that it continues to go from strength to strength even through the UK’s economically challenging times. In addition to this, the restaurant was also named the most sustainable independent restaurant group in the Midlands by the Sustainable Restaurant Association and one of its directors, Irene Allan, was awarded the prestigious role of academician by the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts.
