Birmingham Heritage Week 2016

What is Birmingham Heritage Week?

Birmingham Heritage Week is an event to showcase Birmingham's social, cultural and industrial heritage. It will consist of over 90 coordinated events to be held at heritage sites, museums, libraries and other venues across the city. It will take place from Thursday 8th – Sunday 18th September 2016.

One of the key objectives of the week is to encourage local communities and visitors alike to explore the city’s historical venues and take part in a series of engaging activities which will highlight the rich and diverse history of Birmingham.

The Birmingham Heritage Week programme will include: guided walks, performances, talks, trails, exhibitions, exclusive access to notable buildings, workshops for children etc. There will be a mixture of charged and free events.

The event coincides with the UK’s largest heritage festival; Heritage Open Days, which runs from Thursday 8th – Sunday 11th September.

This is the second year of Birmingham Heritage Week. We want to build on the success of the 2015 event to create a regular, annual, vibrant festival for the people of Birmingham.

How will the event be promoted?

Birmingham Heritage Week will be promoted via a printed leaflet which will be distributed citywide, a dedicated website, the use of social media channels and PR. Organisations are also encouraged to raise the profile of Birmingham Heritage Week and promote their own events through their own promotional channels.

The 2016 Birmingham Heritage Week branding is currently being developed and will be launched in June.

How do I participate?

Organisations throughout Birmingham are encouraged to participate in Birmingham Heritage Week by coordinating their own events and activities.

If your organisation wishes to take part in Birmingham Heritage Week, please complete the online submission form here: by Friday 24th June 2016.
