‘A City as Sculpture’ Exhibition to launch at Lichfield Cathedral
A new exhibition is coming to Lichfield Cathedral entitled ‘A City as Sculpture’, and will run from August – October 2015.
The exhibition, by acclaimed artist Peter Walker, will feature eight artworks which will be on display in The Close, and over fifty other artworks in the Cathedral itself.
Peter has been commissioned to create a 3m bronze statue of St Chad for the Cathedral grounds, alongside a five-year residency with the Cathedral. ‘A City as Sculpture’ will showcase a wide selection of artworks including the statue marquette and original drawings.
A launch event will be held at the Cathedral on Friday 7 August to celebrate the opening of ‘A City as Sculpture’, which is kindly supported by Lichfield car dealership, Tempest Ford. This event will be open to the public, and will provide an exciting opportunity to see the artwork, meet the artist, and enjoy additional projection artwork, and sound developed with artist David Harper.
I am delighted to exhibit a collection of my work during the summer at the start of my residency with the Cathedral. The exhibition and residency are all about developing a series of such events, workshops and talks, all related to the visual arts during the development of the St Chad statue. Publicly accessible art is something that I'm passionate about. Art which people can interact with, which offers something new or which develops opportunities for participation and developing access, is key to the five year programme".
The exhibition is linked to the ‘Through the Artist’s Eye’ exhibition which will be held at the Emporium Gallery.
