Introducing
University College Birmingham

"Alongside vocational qualifications we offer degrees, foundation degrees and postgraduate qualifications in a range of specialist areas including hospitality, culinary arts, business, tourism, marketing, childhood and education, salon management, specialist hair and media make up and sports, all dedicated to training creative and dynamic managers of the future.

But of course, as food is the centre of attention for this festival, we have taken the opportunity below to answer some frequently asked questions which I hope you find of interest”.

What makes a good chef?

Alongside having a passion for food, good chefs are focussed, creative, effective team workers who have patience and can work under pressure. You can train to be a chef at UCB.

What do the bakery students do?

Everything from bread and cake making, chocolate skills, cake decoration and sugar flowers.  Bakery training takes 2/3 years.

Where do food service and hospitality students go on to work?

Employment prospects are good and they go on to work in restaurants, hotels, pubs, contract catering, organising events and weddings, marketing, theme parks, airports and on cruise ships.  The world literally is their oyster!

Are there restaurants at UCB?

Yes, two - the Atrium and Brasserie. Both open term times, Monday to Friday. To book a table call 0121 604 1010.   Also try out the Cakes and Bakes shop!

Where can I get further information?

Visit www.ucb.ac.uk or call 0121 232 4300 email: marketing@ucb.ac.uk
