The 2017 Christmas Jumper Guide

Here at Visit Birmingham we understand and sympathise with how overwhelming the decision of choosing the most important jumper you’ll buy each festive season is. Do I want a classic sweat that looks like I’ve stepped off the film set of The Holiday, or does nothing say I LOVE CHRISTMAS more than a garish, bulb flashing, pom-pom loving jumper that blinds every human that crosses your path. There is no right or wrong answer to this… but we’ve rounded up our picks for everyone under selected themes (Christmas calls for organisation people), all in the hope we can get you one step closer to finalising that all important purchase.

Themes

One for the throwback

Presenting Beyond Retro and their fabulously retro Christmas gear. These jumpers are something I’d imagine Winona Ryder and co to don if Stranger Things and the upside down took a dramatically festive turn, with those flashing lights used for joy and merriment as opposed to being the medium of choice for an evil monster…. Or you’ll just look like you’ve jumped straight out of your parents Christmas photos from the eighties. Let’s not forget the added bonus of guaranteed unique style.

One for the cheese

Although essential to the Christmas festivities, we’re not talking cheese boards, but the Christmas jumpers that may as well be sliced up and slapped on a cracker due to their unwavering commitment to all things cheddar. We’re talking light bulb flashing, all singing and dancing numbers that will give you a presence like none other.  It takes commitment, but if you’re ready to radiate so much cheese your friends & family camembert it, make your way to cheesyjumpers.com

One for the chic

Get your Cameron Diaz on this Christmas and find yourself a sophisticated number that doesn’t limit itself to just one day’s wear. The classic, understated style is one for those who ooze what it means to be chic, and is a timeless jumper you can pull out each year as soon as the cold weather hits. For the chaps, this asos number will have you resembling Jude Law in a heartbeat. For the females, this French connection number is a little on the pricey side, but with unquestionable quality and material so soft, we can only imagine it’s exactly what stroking Santa’s beard is like.

One for the gin enthusiasts

It’s safe to say 2017 has been a year obsessed with gin, and what better way to showcase your love for the juniper based spirit than sporting an alcoholic twist on the nativity scene? Etsy is a fabulous choice for finding Christmas jumpers you can bet your stocking fillers that no one else at the festive soiree will be wearing the same as you. For a cheaper gin-infused find, check out Matalan and their ‘Gin is my festive spirit’ slogan jumper, for just £15. Of course, wearing such strongly themed  jumpers means you must never be seen without a G&T in hand this festive season.

One for the pooches

We all know a dog is for life, and not just for Christmas, and if you can sense your pooch is crying out for some festive cheer, we believe a Christmas jumper with a side of treats is the answer you’re both looking for. Not only will your canine friend entering the room as a Christmas elf fill you with even more delight, it’s a sure-fire way to keep the little ones warm in these colder months. With most human retailers offering their pooch alternatives, from M&S to £3.99 jumpers at Aldi, you are sure to find a jumper you and your 4-legged best friend will both love this Christmas.

One for the lovebirds / BFFL / long lost strangers

What better way to share loving moments with that special person than entrap them in a strongly knitted festive jumper? Presenting the duo Christmas jumper. Your Christmas lover doesn’t have to be the person of choice, it could be a sibling, your favourite barman, the chosen garment to keep you and the stranger you see on the bus every day warm, or perhaps the grumbling colleague across the office you’re determined to give some Christmas cheer by invading their personal space. If any victims spring to mind, we suggest heading giving the dual Christmas jumper a try.
