Something for the weekend?
Each week our marketing team pick one thing they are doing in Birmingham and the region this weekend. Here are their selections for 03 - 05 November, hopefully you'll see something that inspires you, and if not, well there's always next week...
Mary's Pick - Shopping at the Mailbox
Shopping | Homeware | ££
This weekend, my sister and her boyfriend are travelling to Birmingham to visit me. I wish I could say that it was simply because they missed me soooo much and desperately wanted to see me – but no. I feel their trip comes with ulterior motives.
That motive? Shopping. With the Bullring, Grand Central, The Mailbox and all 5 major department stores in the city, you think that would be enough shopping for anyone! But oh no. This week, the Mailbox opened up their new homewares section, which will have been music to my sister’s ears (probably not so much her boyfriend’s).
Having moved into their first house together earlier this year, they are always on the lookout for new things for their home. With brands like Heal’s and MADE.com featuring, I’m sure they’ll have no trouble finding something lovely to take home. The afternoon will pass by as we wonder around the showrooms full of the latest interior trends set out like the perfect show home. It’s like a posh IKEA!
And just like any other weekend pick of mine, this one wouldn’t be complete without some mention of food. With the homewares section lacking a certain Swedish meatball we will have to wonder further afield to dine. Luckily enough the Mailbox itself has a great selection of bars and restaurants. I’m feeling a light lunch in Tom’s Kitchen Deli!
Louise's Pick - Fireworks at The Priory
Fireworks | Fizz | ££
Remember remember the 5th of November…. well it’s actually the 3rd but who cares it’s the weekend of firework fun and in my house that means it is the official count down to Christmas!
This crisp evening I will be heading to my local fireworks display at the Edgbaston Priory Club ready for an eve full of cosy fires, magical display, mulled wine and of course TOFFEE APPLES!!!
I have frequented this very wonderful display for several years and each year the bar is set higher and higher by the incredible display the year before, so I’m warning you Edgbaston Priory Club I’m expecting to be totally amazed, if I’m not then I retract this weekend pick.
Thankfully we live in city full of spectacular fireworks events and displays ranging from sports venues to sipping on a glass of Champagne and enjoying them from the comfort of Marco Pierre Whites sky high restaurant.
So wherever you are this Bonfire weekend we wish you a fantastic evening, and just think after it there are only 7 weekends until CHISTMAS!!!
*Always act sensibly and responsibly with fireworks.
Natalie and Emily's Pick - Bar Opus
Food | Bar | ££
Most of our friends won’t be surprised to hear that our weekend plans involve going out to eat, but in a surprising turn of events, Emily and I will actually be learning how to make the food!
Our boss will be relieved to know that this isn’t our way of announcing our resignation to embark on a cookery career, but rather an opportunity to brag that we’ll will among the first to try out Bar Opus’s new ‘Unda’s Saturday Kitchen’ event this weekend. Chef Unda will be showing us how to cook and present 3 different dishes (while we sit back with a Bellini, no less), so that we can wow our loved ones with our new skills. The Opus group is a veritable fine dining institution in Birmingham, so I can’t wait to incorporate the new dishes into my culinary repertoire*.
*unashamedly claim the dishes as my own creation
Unda’s Saturday Kitchen will officially start on a bi-monthly basis from Saturday 11th November, from 11am – 12pm. Attendees will receive a Bellini on arrival, plus 10 % off lunch at Bar Opus.
The session costs £25 per person, but tickets to the first class on 11th November will be priced at £20.
