As well as being the month of National Curry Week, the English Curry Awards are also being held this month in Manchester. So let’s throw the spotlight on last year’s winner and this year’s finalists.
Rajdoot took the award last year for Best Restaurant Design 2013. Having relocated to the gateway of the city’s famous Jewellery Quarter in 2002, it’s a hidden gem that’s worth seeking out.
The first class interior is a sumptuous haven of rich vibrant colour against carved wooden artefacts with the low level lighting created a calming ambience. You can almost imagine a maharajah coming here to relax in this oasis of calm, leisurely enjoying a sumptuous feast!
Enjoyed by many familiar faces over the years, such as Jamie Oliver and Simon Cowell, the Rajdoot brand has been attracting diners for nearly 50 years, and is sure to continue being a crowd pleaser for many more years to come.
The Horseshoe Bar & Restaurant in Hall Green has been nominated in this year’s awards for Best Interior Design. The former pub now houses a contemporary restaurant with a gastro-pub feel. The kitchen offers two cuisines – great tasting North Indian food on The Chilli & Spice menu and English favourites on The Great British Menu.
Having already been a finalist in the 2012 British Curry Awards, and appeared on Marco Pierre White’s TV series Kitchen Wars, many have labelled the high quality of their dishes as exceptional. I for one can certainly vouch that their biryani is amazing!
Pushkar Dining is up for Best Restaurant this year as well as their Head Chef Bishal Rasaily up for Best Chef. The sophisticated restaurant on Broad Street is still as popular as ever with its first class food and glamourous cocktail bar. Pushkar offers an elegant dining experience that exudes class and glamour and an excellent menu of course!
The cocktail bar is very ‘Sex and the City’ and they have some unique creations on their cocktail list too. On my last visit we had Brahma’s Creation made with vodka, apricot jam, passion fruit syrup and fresh mango topped with champagne. Heavenly!
I’m looking forward to the awards ceremony on the 13th to cheer on our Birmingham contenders.
