New menu at MPW
Last year we were lucky enough to be invited to sample the food at Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport’s new restaurant - Marco Pierre White's New York Italian. The food and service were fantastic and my colleague Paul and I left in a very content food trance!
Well, after that experience, you can only image our delight when we got invited to try their brand new menu!
We made the same seamless journey from Birmingham city centre to the hotel. A total of 20 minutes from door to door, a 12 minute train journey from New Street Station to Birmingham International and the handy shuttle bus was there ready and waiting when we arrived. Our excitement mounted whilst on the bus as we knew what would be in store for us, but would the menu be as amazing as last time?
Welcomed by the friendly staff we felt at home straight away and were shown to a cosy table looking out over the night; soon we had a glass of wine in hand and were ready for our culinary journey to begin. Any worries we had about the menu not being as good as last time were quickly quashed as we perused the new tasty menu. Full of a delicious assortment of classic Italian and American inspired dishes, we nibbled on some olives as we decided what to have.
We decided to go for one of their new sharing boards to start; it was a tough decision but eventually selected The Great American. The chicken was crispy with a tangy BBQ sauce; the nachos were gooey with cheese, the pulled pork was succulent and the dips added an abundance of extra flavours. All round a winning starter, the photo does not do it justice at all.
For our main I decided to go for a Sicilian tuna steak with capers and spinach. Tuna is one of my favourite fish dishes so I was extremely excited when it arrived and I tucked into the perfectly cooked fish. It was crisp on the outside and delicate on the inside. I worried it would not be enough so ordered some AMAZING sweet potato fries but I was defeated by greed and couldn’t finish it all.
Paul couldn’t help but go for the Cajun steak, meat and spice being his two favourite things in food it was the logical dish for him. His spectacular steak (which I felt a moment of food envy for, until I tried my own) was served with sweet potato fries and like me greed took over and he ordered a side salad...which he did not finish! Surprising stuff!
After a well eared rest from the food, we accepted the challenge of pudding. I took around 2.5 seconds to decide on the Italian doughnuts with chocolate sauce and Paul couldn’t resist the Brownie and Ice cream. When they arrived we were met with 2 huge desserts, we gulped as we felt the greed had taken over again, however we both managed to pack away around 80% of the puddings. So a good effort I felt. There was only one moment of panic when Paul stuffed an entire doughnut dipped in chocolate sauce in his mouth - I thought he was goner, but he managed to swallow it after around 3 minutes of chewing. WARNING these puddings are extremely delicious and rich, you will be very full afterwards, take your time and savour them!
One of the things that always makes the evening here is the friendly staff that serve us. Nothing was too much trouble and our glasses remained full of wine throughout the night. After an indulgent evening we got on the shuttle bus to make our journey back to the Birmingham. Our eyes drooping and our tummies full, needless to say we had a great evening....again!
