EPIc food

We’d heard the name Epi being bounced around in a few conversations so when they contacted us to taste their new lunch menu we were delighted!

The Epi Restaurant in Bromsgrove (around 30min drive from the centre on Birmingham/ 20min train journey) opened their doors to the public at the beginning of 2014 as a pop-up, but now sits as a permanent resident and by golly are we glad!

We arrived around 12pm ready and raring (we’d skipped breakfast), and were shown upstairs to the dining area. Before we knew it we had a glass of wine in our hand and a beautiful board of freshly baked sourdough in front of us.

After perusing the menu we had made our minds up and began ordering..

I started with the Pork Terrine, accompanied with a gribiche sauce (a French sauce consisting of mayonnaise and egg) and apple puree with thinly sliced segments of apple. All sat together and complemented each other perfectly, with the fresh apple acting as a great contrasting texture.

Steve (my bf) went for the cured salmon, beetroot and preserved lemon, which came presented on a beautiful plate and looked generally, beautiful. Having tried some of his (I said I had to for work) I can say first hand that the salmon was cured to perfection.

On to the main course.. we took the same approach for the main as we did the starters and went for different dishes. I opted for grilled hake with a rich ragout of tomato, chorizo and gnocchi and Steve, the slow cooked shortrib of beef which came with creamy smooth mash, kale and roasted swede. What I loved about the Epi Restaurant is that they know how to make a good sauce and there is nothing better than a great dish with an even greater sauce!

Both being chocoholics, we couldn’t resist the chocolate ganache for dessert, served with caramalised milk and thank god we had it! This dessert is a chocolate addicts dream!

The lunch menu is now served at the Epi Restaurant from Thursday – Saturday with 2 courses for £25 and 3 courses for £29 or if you’re extra hungry you can opt for the five course tasting menu!
