An evening at pentahotel
Recently I and a group of my Marketing Birmingham cohorts paid a visit to pentahotel – one of the latest developments in Birmingham city centre.
We had not stumbled upon this location by chance, but had received word that this establishment had recently undergone a multi million pound transformation - renovating a weary Holloway Head hotel into 7-floors of panache more akin to a stylish nightspot.
pentahotel’s website states that ‘you’ll never have checked in to a more relaxed hotel reception’, and they do not lie, in fact it was so relaxed it wasn’t even evident that this was a hotel reception. We were met with Chesterfield chairs, a flamboyantly upholstered pool table, disco balls and an industrial type staircase, very classy indeed. We ascended.
The pentalounge –- an open plan floor of deep pile rugs, leather armchairs, low-key lighting…a great location to unwind for a few hours/days. But we’d be back here shortly; first we had a tour planned of the hotel's other assets - its conference facilities and its 131 bedrooms (not all of them!).
The bedrooms were of the same high standard as the lounge; comfy beds, air conditioning, nice wet room style bathrooms with snazzy toiletries and for a city centre hotel it was very very quiet, shhhhh, especially considering we were right in the heart of the city, just a stone’s throw from the Mailbox. There were other comforts too, slippers, robes and large 26-inchish flat-screen TV’s, more in keeping with today’s big tastes…penta is aimed at a 25+ market but it doesn’t scrimp on the toys. There’s a free to use Sony PlayStation 4 in the lounge and the aforementioned pool tables (there’s 2 of them) are also complimentary. You also get free movies in your bedroom – and we’re not talking 'Weekend at Bernie’s', but up-to-the-minute bona fide Oscar © contenders.
A tour of the updated conference facilities also did not disappoint; smart, up-to-date facilities and judging by the reception we had received so far an attentive personal service for delegates.
Next back into the pentalounge for cocktails – I was handed an extensive list and scoured it for one with ingredients that looked most like a White Russian, (my cocktail of choice) it didn’t disappoint – and then all was well with the world as I supped my Rumble Ron, (a manly concoction perhaps named after Mr. Burgundy) picked from a delicious sharing platter of meats and veggie options, plucked popcorn from a stylish cone affair and settled back into the luxurious sofa. Ahhhh pen-ta-hotel.
We browsed the restaurant menu (check out the built in spy hole encouraging you to wink at someone!) it looked mighty fine fare, but our bar platter had sedated our hunger. More’s the pity – it looked mouthwatering, and I’ll definitely be back to sample from it, I’m thinking the steak, in case you were wondering.
Unfortunately it was a school night and, being professionals, naturally we bowed out of a second round. To be truthful, I rather fancied rumbling (r)on, staying over and awaking to sample one of penta’s almighty breakfast’s which comes complete with free Prosecco, that’s right people you read that correctly… free Prosecco! Of course being a consummate professional I’d have opted for an orange juice, naturally.
And then, just like that *poof*, we were Pentagon – but would be erm…Pentacost no…..errr…we’d Penta…erm…we’d definitely be back to sample more!
