Fort Royal Park is located south-east of Worcester within the Cathedral Ward of Worcester, with the main entrance being on Wylds Lane. Fort Royal Park is of critical historical significance to the city, as the site of the 1651 Battle of Worcester, the final battle of the English Civil War. It was also visited by the second and third Presidents of the United States of America, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, who were keen to see the site they regarded as the place where democracy was effectively born.
Historic significance
Towards what was to become the end of the English Civil War, Charles II left Scotland on a journey to return to London. During the break in his journey at Worcester, he looked for support from the people of the city. Although unknown at the time, Worcester was to become the turning point in the political history of England and much of the momentous changes of that period are locked into the background, lore and history of Fort Royal Park.

- It rewards those who attain the demanding criteria and in doing so, it helps to encourage other park authorities and organisations to improve their environment and management standards, so that they in turn may be eligible for a Green Flag.
Children's Play Area
There is now a fantastic new playground in Fort Royal Park, containing innovative play equipment designed for a range of age groups.
The first area for younger children replicates a civil war period farm homestead and includes swings, a slide and small pieces of play equipment for climbing and role play.
The second area for older children contains a web-like climbing structure leading to a third area containing a fort with slide.
Fort Royal Memory Trail
Park visitors will have the opportunity to explore memories of the Park by discovering QR codes along the trail that link through to videos of local people’s memories, some historic, some personal.
The videos record the memories of residents living close to the park, children from Stanley Road Primary School, the Worcester Muslim Welfare Association, local historians and the Worcester Central Mosque.
The videos of their experiences have been embedded into a smartphone activated treasure trail through the park - look out for the seven small brass plaques each displaying a QR code or download your own Memory Trail Leaflet
