One of the UK’s leading dance houses, a centre of excellence for dance participation, performance and production.
DanceXchange (dx) is a dance house dedicated to creating exciting opportunities for people of all walks of life to engage in dance, either as a participant, performer or audience member. dx takes the best British dance to a worldwide stage, brings outstanding artists from across the world to Birmingham, and is developing a reputation as a world-class producing house.
DanceXchange is a partner organisation with Birmingham Hippodrome and Birmingham Royal Ballet, and is based in the Hippodrome theatre complex.
DanceXchange runs a recreational programme of around 45 dance classes each week for people of all ages (from 6 months to 50 years+), from beginner to professional, in a diverse range of styles from Contemporary to Capoeira, Ballet to Street Dance.
Whether you're looking to supplement your studies, or just fancy strutting your stuff and keeping fit, dx has something for everyone. Classes start from just £3 per session, and there’s no enrolment fee, just drop in when you want. For more information visit dancexchange.org.uk/classes
DanceXchange programmes outstanding dance artists from across the world, to perform in dx’s 206-seat studio theatre, The Patrick Centre, which was the first dedicated dance space outside Londonand remains one of the most important spaces for dance performance and production in the country. DanceXchange is also a co-producer, along with Birmingham Hippodrome, of International Dance Festival Birmingham (IDFB), one of the largest and most diverse dance festivals in the world.
The biennial, four week festival has been running since 2008 and brings some of the world’s best dance artists to Birmingham’s finest venues. Incorporating an outstanding international theatre programme, world premieres, outdoor shows, workshops, family activities and school performances, IDFB has something for everyone.
With over 250 free events across the city, IDFB enlivens outdoor spaces, attracts audiences of over 60,000 and brings dance into the daily lives of people within the city. Exciting plans are in place for the next festival, which will take place in April and May 2014.
