Everything you need to know about the area in one essential book.
In Eastside you’ll find Millennium Point, a mixed-used development and home to the Thinktank Science Museum. The perfect place for children young or old, Thinktank lets you explore the world around you.
Eastside City Park is Birmingham’s first new City Centre Park in 130 years. Setting the standards for public realm expected from an international City, the park is the largest single piece of public realm in Birmingham City Centre, a green route to walk from the City Centre into the heart of Eastside.
Featuring 310 trees, formal lawns, public squares and a canal feature running 188m plus a 21 jet dry plaza, the park also incorporates a Science Garden, kiosk and children’s play area developed by Thinktank. Also earmarked for Eastside is the new High Speed Rail station for Birmingham city centre. One thing is for sure, this part of Birmingham is never one to sit still!
Many colleges and universities have a presence in Eastside, with budding fashion designers, animators and artists finding new ground. The creative vein spreads outwards to locally-founded galleries and cultural organisations. Eastside Projects is an artist-run space and is a new model for a gallery, one where space and programme are intertwined. Alongside experimental contemporary art practices and exhibitions, the gallery has featured long-term, permanent works from international artists.
Eastside Projects aims to support the cultural growth of the city. Established in 1992, VIVID Projects has a strong reputation for its commitment to media arts (artist film and video, digital, installation and sound art) in Birmingham through research, production and commissioning programmes. The VIVID space is used to introduce audiences to both emerging local talent and work of international significance.
RoguePlay, Birmingham's most innovative Circus Theatre Company, is also based in Eastside. They combine the spoken word with unsurpassable Physical Theatre and stunning Aerial Circus.
