BBC Half Term Tour
A Family Day Out, Tuesday 18th and Thursday 20th February 2014, 2.30pm – 8.30pm
1) 2.30pm – 4.00pm
Start your afternoon in Centenary Square with a visit to Birmingham’s newest architectural iconic landmark, the Library of Birmingham. Take the lift up to The Discovery Terrace on Level 3 and The Secret Garden on Level 7 and enjoy magnificent views across the city. Visit the historic Shakespeare Memorial Room on Level 9 and Middle Earth a children’s activity room. Check out the library’s Discovery Gallery for the latest exhibitions, events and activities or stop off for a coffee at the Library Café.
2) 4.00pm – 4.30pm
Walk from Centenary Square to the International Convention Centre (ICC), taking a sneek peak into the Symphony Hall (if the doors are open!) through to Brindley Place at the rear of the building. Cross over the bridge and take a leisurely walk along the picturesque canalside, passing by Gas Street Basin towards The Mailbox.
3) 4.30pm – 5.00pm
Once at The Mailbox, get in the mood for your BBC Tour, by popping into BBC’s Birmingham Public Space. Take your photo with our resident TARDIS or visit our popular interactive area on Level 9 where you can have a go at reading and recording a news item or weather report. There, you can also play our new BBC Birmingham Quiz. Compete against your family and friends and find out who is sharp eyed and fastest finger on the buzzer. Once you’re done, pop into the BBC shop where you can purchase BBC show memorabilia and much more.
4) 5.00pm – 6.45pm
At The Mailbox, you will find a great choice of canalside cafes, bars and restaurants. Stop off here for an early dinner.
5) 7.00pm – 8.30pm
Head back into The Mailbox for a behind the scenes Tour of BBC Birmingham, home to popular shows such as The Archers, Midlands Today, BBC WM and Asian Network. BBC Tour guides will offer a fascinating insight into the programmes originating from BBC Birmingham and share the secrets of getting a programme from script to screen with plenty of interactive fun along the way! You can try your hand at recording your own radio play complete with all the sound effects or find out what it’s like to be a contestant on CBBC’s popular game show, Copycats. On the Tour you may also meet some very ugly aliens from Doctor Who!
Ticket prices range from £6.15 - £8.00. Spaces are limited so pre-booking is essential. To book your tour visit here.
